The Sacrament of Baptism is the Rite by which God adopts us as his children and makes us members of Christ’s Body, the Church. The Word baptism comes from the Greek word βάπτισμα/baptisma which means “washing”.

As with all sacraments Baptism consists of two parts: the outward and visible sign, and the inward and spiritual grace. In the Sacrament of Baptism the person being Baptized will be immersed in water or have water poured on them three times in the name of the Holy Trinity: “The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit”. The inward and spiritual grace in Baptism is union with Christ in his death and resurrection, birth into God’s family the Church, forgiveness of sins, and new life in the Holy Spirit.

Before being Baptized the recipient (and/or Parents) and their God-parents will renounce Satan, repent of their sins and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.

Both Adults and Infants can be Baptized. Infants are baptized so they can be initiated into the Church. When Infants are baptized promises are made for them by their parents and God-parents that the child will be brought up in the Church to follow Christ.
